We've labeled this wine a Red Blend and not a Bordeaux Blend, not as an act of modesty, simply a better description of what’s inside.
A Bordeaux blend combines two or more of the following: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. This wine checks the first three. Where it departs from Bordeaux is elevation. Moon Mountain, where this wine was grown, sits at 2,000 feet, while Bordeaux rarely exceeds 150. And that makes all the difference. Mountain fruit is intense and structured. The berries are tiny and offer a higher skin-to-pulp ratio. More skin equals more tannins, which is why we aged this wine in bottle for over a year.
On the nose: plum, black cherry, black pepper, tobacco. In the mouth: cherry, cranberry and dark chocolate, all firmly knit together with wonderful acidity and a long finish. Tannins are young so decant a full hour ahead and you’ll be rewarded.
